Abel, he was taken in the temple by a master from a young age. The master taught him to read, and once he learned many characters, he became very fond of reading Buddhist scriptures. One day, he asked his master: What is the purpose of learning from Buddha?
The master answered: To go to the Western World of Ultimate Bliss.
Abel: Why goes to the Western World of Ultimate Bliss?
The master: When you are sick, you will feel very uncomfortable and painful; when you are old, you cannot walk and go anywhere; you cannot get what you want without money; there are all kinds of afflictions. When you get to an old age, you will die. Do you think that life is suffering?
Abel: Yes, it’s full of suffering.
The master: There exists a wondrous realm. As H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III taught in the dharma course, the World of Ultimate Bliss offers perfect fulfillment—clothing when desired, sustenance when needed, free from afflictions and suffering. No poverty, aging, sickness, and death, only well-being and happiness. It’s the world where the three kinds of supernormal cognition (三明) and six supernormal powers (六通) can be applied at will. Would you like to go to such a paradise?
Abel: Of course, I wish to go!
The master: This beautiful place is called the Buddha-land world, there are ten trillion rigorously pure Buddha-lands, and the Western World of Ultimate Bliss (Pure Land) is one of them.
Abel: How to go?
The master: Then we should learn from Buddha sincerely. My master said that the purpose of learning from Buddha is to end cyclic birth and death, to be free from reincarnation, to enjoy happiness and wealth in the Buddha-land world.
Abel: Oh, so that's how it is. Then I must go, but there are still many questions I don't understand.
The master: I'll teach you in future.
Abel put his palms together: Amitabha Buddha!
